Nic Barilar is a theatre and performance historian, teacher, and practitioner. Currently an Andrew W. Mellon Predoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh where he is finishing his PhD in theatre and performance studies.

Nic’s research focuses on twentieth-century Irish theatre and drama, censorship, and the global cold war. His dissertation rethinks censorship as mobile by tracing the performance histories of banned Irish plays that performed outside of Ireland after their censorship. Nic has also written and presented research on performance and violence, musical theatre, and queer theory.

Nic has taught and assisted with undergraduate courses in theatre history, performance studies, acting, musical theatre performance, and freshman rhetoric and composition among others.

Nic has also worked as an actor, singer, director, dramaturg, and scenic painter. He is proud member of Actor’s Equity Association.
